The story of endangered life foms is NOT
all doom and gloom.  Once people started
noticing that some animals – and even plants
– were dying off, a few decided to do
something about it.  When public interest
became great enough in the US about
45 years ago, congress passed the
Endangered Species Act.  Most other
countries have their own laws to help
with the problem.  And in many cases,
the refuges, efforts and restrictions so
created have paid off, as this 2013 report
